Resolution Time ;)

My wishes for the world this new year:

~ The vaccine for COVID-19 is effective. Scientists have been working extremely hard for quite a long time to formulate a vaccine for the global pandemic. Recently, two vaccines have been released. Hopefully at least one works and prevents people from getting the virus!

~ A world free from war. In the past couple centuries, decades, years, even months, there have been international conflicts. For example, India and China had a grudge against each other, as China was trying to encroach India's border. Hopefully the number of conflicts like that can diminish.

~ A world free from hunger. In many countries, especially African ones, hunger is a huge issue. Everyday, several people are dying, simply because they do not have enough food. Hopefully, we can solve this issue, or at least decrease the amount of people dying of hunger.

"The world has enough for every man's need, but not for every man's greed" - Mahatma Gandhi

Gender inequality can decrease. In these past several centuries, gender equality has increased a lot, however even now there are still numerous countries who treat men and women differently. Back in the early 1900s, when gender inequality started to become an issue, women were considered "weak" and less capable of doing things that men could. For example, women were not allowed to go to school, while men were. Instead, women would be taught to clean the house and cook food. Even though women do get a lot of respect nowadays, there are always ways the world could improve.

~ Racial injustice can decrease. A couple months ago, there were a couple consecutive incidents where black people were getting killed for no reason. For example, George Floyd distinctly told Chauvin (the police officer kneeing his neck) that he could not breathe (it was not even confirmed that Floyd had tried to use counterfeit money, he was only suspected), however Chauvin continued to put pressure on his neck, eventually killing him. This lead to several protests.

More people can get a proper education. All around the world there are millions of people who can't and don't get a proper education, mainly due to financial issues. I'm hoping this year we can increase the number of people that get a true education, and decrease the number of those who don't.

~ The worldwide depression rate can decrease. During the times of this pandemic especially, more and more people have been getting depressed, due to not being able to spend time with their family and loved ones. While hoping that the pandemic goes away in this new year, I'm hoping that the depression does too.

~ Wildlife conservation increases. Wildlife conservation is the implementation of protecting animal species and their habitats. There are many endangered animal species such as the Mountain Gorillas, Orangutans, and Asian Elephants. Most endangered animals are threatened by loss of habitat and their habitats being damaged. My hope is that we can lessen the number of endangered animals, and possibly turn already endangered animals into animals with a proper habitat.

My resolutions for this year:

~ Limit the amount of time I spend on screens (my phone, computer, and TV). These days in quarantine at home, often times I get bored, and my go-to is either my computer or phone. This year I want to use those devices mindfully, and use the time saved for more productive activities. For example, if I wanted to use my phone, I could go on a walk around my block and get some exercise in addition to spending time on it.

~ Being able to knit a beanie. My mom has started teaching me how to knit lately. I'm still practicing the basics, but my ultimate goal is to be able to knit a beanie.

~ Read more historical fiction books. I really enjoy reading, as I've mentioned in my "About Me" post. However, most of the books I've read were either realistic fiction, fantasy, nonfiction, or science fiction. My goal this year is to read more historical fiction books, such as All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, which tells the story of two teenagers during World War II, a blind girl in Nazi-occupied France, the other a German orphan boy pressed into service by the Nazi army, andHattie Big Sky by Kirby Larson, which is about a sixteen-year-old orphan who keeps alternating living with unknown relatives of hers, but then she receives a letter from an uncle that has recently died, saying that all of his land is for her. After that, Hattie travels to his farm in Montana and starts a new life from there.

~ Have better time management. Often times I will get quite a lot of homework from school, which leads me to sleeping at around 11pm, and sometimes later. However, I think that if I can manage my time better and use my time more wisely, I can finish my homework earlier and have more time for myself.

~ Drink more water. Drinking water helps maintain the balance of body fluids. These body fluids could contribute to digestion, transportation of nutrients (to the cells), blood and oxygen circulation, or maintaining your body temperature. That's not all water does though. Water also plays a role in creating saliva (the watery liquid in your mouth that allows chewing and swallowing). Most doctors say that it is necessary to drink at least two liters of water. Now that you know that it is very important to drink water, make sure you drink lots and lots of water too. 👍🏼

~ Accept my imperfections. This is kind of a weird resolution, but sometimes I complain about how some part of my body isn't perfect or that my grades aren't perfect, but I think I need to realize that no one is ever perfect.
